Which means you can drive the car like a remote controll RC car, one only steers left and right, the other only accelerates/brakes. This means, you can bind the x axis to the left pad, and the y axis to the right pad. CARMAGEDDON 2 ONLINE PLAY FULLMy only complaint with it so far is that the analog pads are a bit close together, such that if you have the left one full right, and the right one full left, your thumbs might bump together, though the pads don't.Īnd, in case you were wondering, you can custom bind which axis goes to which analog pad. CARMAGEDDON 2 ONLINE PLAY DRIVERSEach and every one of the 13 buttons (and even 8 way digipad) can (with the latest v2.6 drivers which are digitally signed by Microsoft) be bound to almost any (if not every) in game function. It can be purchased (at the time of this post) in the US for under $16 shipped free from buy.com. Pretty cool, eh? Oh, I suppose you've been waiting for an OpenGLide download page link, so there you go.īTW for those who don't have a good gamepad to play C2 with, I just bought and can recommend the Belkin Nostromo n45 Dual Analog USB GamePad. As far as the graphical anomalies in the menu, I don't know if they're hard on the graphics card (though my guess is they're not), so use at your own risk. Let me know if you try a version later than 0.08 Final and have good results. After trying one of the many 0.09 versions, I backed down to 0.08 again. I tried version 0.08 Final OpenGlide and it worked great. So why fake Glide? Well it appears that the bug that crashes the game when a joystick is attached is related to D3D rendering somehow, because using OpenGLide somehow gets by this bug. You can even make it look better than it ever looked by cranking up the anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing settings under OpenGL! (might as well, since you can't increase the resolution). Now there's some weirndess in the menu, but the game looks great. Running the CARMA2_HW file alone apparently defaults to Glide rendering. To use OpenGLide, all that's needed is to put the Glide2x.dll file that comes in the download into the C2 directory. This basically translates (if I understand it correctly) the Glide functions from the application into OpenGL functions to the GPU. Once the game will run with hardware 3D, (with the shortcut changed to the CARMA2_HW.EXE file, and with compatibility set to Win95 and 640x480 resolution for good measure, Win2K users just need to switch to 640x480 res before playing) you only need one more peice of the puzzle that DosFreak was kind enough to suggest: OpenGLide. The game offers open environments where exploration away from the racing course is encouraged.Believe it or not, you can get C2 to run with hardware 3D (640x480) and with a joystick/gamepad. Though the player can win by racing by finishing first, wrecking everything in sight is encouraged. There are many power-ups strewn around the courses that range from useful (more speed, instant brake) to fun and downright absurd. ![]() If a specific opponent’s car is wrecked multiple times in successive races, it is added to the choice of available vehicles. In the race itself the player tries to damage opponents by driving into them, and can also kill pedestrians.ĭamage, kills and spectacular moves earn credits for upgrades and even making repairs to the car at anytime during the race. The overall objective is to race all the way to the top, collecting the opponents’ cars on the way as trophies (and possibly replacements to one’s vehicle). At the beginning the player has only one car and is ranked at #99. Play Carmageddon online!
